10 years have passed since the most prestigious award came to Trondheim!
Now in December 2024, it was a fully 10 years since May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser received the medal and diploma as visible proof that they were awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the year 2014. They received this prestigious scientific award for the discovery of grid cells, which in the international research community is described as one of the greatest breakthroughs in modern neuroscience. The discovery of grid cells provided completely new knowledge about how the brain calculates where we are. Grid cells form the hub of the sense of place.
Celebrations of the anniversary have been ongoing throughout 2024 in the form of small and large events, and it all ended with a fantastic anniversary concert in the Nidaros Cathedral itself.

Gemini.no published a great anniversary edition in connection with its 10th anniversary.

A journey in words over sea and land is a cheerful read, well interspersed with serious words and philosophical reflections on life and love
"This book touches me, and I am absolutely certain that it will touch those who are lucky enough to buy a copy," says May-Britt Moser in a comment.
The descendants of Per Smådal (1936-2023) have supported the publication of the book financially. Per was affected by Alzheimer's disease in the last years of his life. His family and the author want the surplus from the sale to go to research on Alzheimer's disease, through the Kavli Institute's Brain Research Fund. The institute is run by May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser, who in 2014 received the Nobel Prize in Medicine for groundbreaking results in brain research.
Jan Morten Dyrstad, chairman of the board of the Brain Research Foundation, says this about the book, among other things: "Høvik writes well and funny about current events and topics. This is good Sunnmøre humor - I definitely get associations with Are Kalvø. The book contains messages and opinions with a sting, not always politically correct"
On October 5th, I presented the book "A journey in words over sea and land". It is a selection of what I call køseri, which I have written in Regionsavisa and Vestlandsnytt since 2012. The book is 244 pages long and is richly illustrated with drawings by Sture Lian Olsen.
Enjoy your reading!

50 mill. NOK to the Research Fund of the Kavli Institute
- The savings bank Sparebanken 1 SMN's donation to the Brain Research Fund is a very important contribution! Primarily because the Fund significantly will increase its annual allocations to research at the Kavli Institute. We know that the money from the Brain Research Fund means a lot because it is money without restrictions beyond the fact that they will be used for brain research.
The donation is a contribution in line with Fred Kavli's vision of promoting science for the benefit of humanity by supporting basic research and by strengthening the connection between science and society. It is incredibly important that an institution such as Sparebank 1 SMN chooses long-term support for basic research in this way. The bank contributes to Fred Kavli's vision!
The donation also shows that it is possible to build a significant fund for basic research at a world-leading research environment in Norway.

Gitter med Glitter – en nobel soaré!
We are celebrating that it is ten years since our brain research superstars May-Britt Moser and Edvard Moser received the Nobel Prize in Medicine or Physiology. They received the award for their discovery of the grid cells, which are known as the brain’s GPS. We take the basic research for which they won the Nobel Prize into our Alzheimer’s research in collaboration with Trønderbrain and St.Olav’s hospital, and we want to inspire excellent research and communication!
A big thank you to everyone who came to celebrate with us! Please, take a look at the pictures from our great evening on our Facebook page and celebrate a with us!
To the top against Alzheimer's Disease
Support research in the search for a cure for Alzheimer's! A charity project by Nils-Jarle Sætre to create transparency around Alzheimer's and raise funds for research at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience. The summer of 2023 we cheered Nils-Jarle through Lofoten and up to Sørøya in Finnmark.
He has a strong desire to create transparency about the disease and help those who are and will be affected. During his trips, he has met many people, struck up a conversation, shared thoughts and stories as well as given several strong and moving lectures. What a fantastic commitment!
He also have a concrete goal of collecting one million norwegian kroner for the basic research at the Kavli Institute.
