The City Walk starts from the campus grounds directly towards Bakklandet. Bakklandet is very popular with its charming little colorful wooden houses. This part of town used to be the working class district. The former industrial buildings are now popular and modern apartments. The charming wooden architecture has been preserved over the years despite fires and massive building projects. We will be able to visit a worldwide unique attraction here: the "Trampe" bicycle lift. One foot on the pedal - the other on the lift and up it goes without requiring muscle power.

We will cross the famous Old Town Bridge with its red gateway, also known as the "Portal of Happiness", to enter the city center. The bridge is great picturesque photo spot for the colorful warehouses along the river Nid. We pass the Nidaros Cathedral and walk a few metres from the cathedral to the market square (Torvet). Here, the Viking King Olav Tryggvason is enthroned above the vibrant square in the shape of a statue. Our guide will tell us the story of the city's founder. From King of the Vikings to King of the Present.

Immediately after the square, we will arrive at the royal residence Stiftsgården with its beautiful courtyard. Since 1997 it has been open to the public, which allows us to continue our tour through the garden along the Hotel Britannia and the bank district, a touch of "Wall Street" and "5th Avenue" in the city center and will continue to Solsiden - "the sunny side" - is a busy area with restaurants and cafés where many locals and students spend their free time. One of the largest shipyards served as the basis for the 1983 urban renewal project, and large elements that were once part of the shipbuilding equipment, such as the large crane, have been preserved in the area as a reminder of its industrial history. In 1960, the shipyard completed the construction of a ship for the postal route “Hurtigruten,” called the MS Harald Jarl.

The city tour ends along the River Nid (Nidelva) in Bakklandet.
