Task 5.4

Task 5.4 : Performance testing of the turbines

The main objective of this task is to monitor the performance of the newly developed Francis turbine with respect to erosion mitigation and optimized efficiency in sediment laden waters.

The fabricated turbines will be installed and tested in the HPP. The performance testing will follow IEC 60041 standard. The erosion of installed Francis turbine will be measured along with monitoring suspended sediments continuously and reduction in turbine efficiency due to erosion. The erosion in other unit of the plant with unchanged profile will also be measured to show the respective benefits of the modified design under similar erosion conditions.
