Task 5.1

Task 5.1 : Find a prototype test sites in India and in Nepal

The major objective of this project activity is to establish at least two HPPs as a specific reference sites for installation and testing of newly designed Francis turbine.

This activity will be done together with WP 1.2. Potential HPPs, from Nepal and India will be identified for prototype testing. The new designs of these turbines for variable speed operation will be achieved from WP 2. Based on the hydraulic design obtained from WP 2, the mechanical design of the prototype turbine will be prepared. The turbines will then be fabricated and tested in the site. An MoU will be drafted and agreed with power plant managers for installation and operation of new design invented during this project.

Deliverables 5.1

  • Deliverables

D5.1   MoU and Letter of intent from the power plant owners or other agencies for the technical and financial support      - M14

D5.2   Report of the detailed case study of two power plants (technical and financial)     - M18

  • Milestones

MS5.1   Finalize at least two power plants affected by sediments as the test cases and securing funds for prototype tests with the MoU agreement     - M18
