Task 2.3

Task 2.3 Francis Turbine Design Tool

The major objective of this project activity is to develop a Francis turbine design tool for turbines operation in sediment laden water.

The design tool, that will be developed, will be based on the design tool; Khoj which is developed at NTNU and is an open source code. The design tool will be developed to give hydraulic designs for a limited range of speed numbers for the following Francis turbine parts:

  • Spiral casing
  • Stay vanes
  • Designs with and without guide vanes
  • Runner and labyrinth sealing
  • Draft tube

The design tool will be programmed to have direct outputs to the CAD-program and  numerical tools that will be utilized for the project.
