Nominations

Instructions and deadlines for nominations of students to NTNU will be sent out to partners in due time before the deadline. Nominations sent by e-mail will not be considered. 

Please send nominations using our Nomination Portal. If you do not have log-in credentials, or if you have questions/inquiries about the process, please contact:

Applications

The complete application, including all required documents, must be submitted in NTNU’s application portal by:

1 April for the autumn semester (non-EU Citizens)
1 May for the autumn semester (NB: ONLY EU/EEA/Swiss citizens)

1 October for the spring semester (all students)

Academic calendar

The academic year is divided into two semesters, autumn and spring.

Autumn semester: Mid-August – Mid/late December
Spring semester: Early January – Early June

Admission requirements

The exact number of students is specified in the exchange agreement.
NOTE: Please do not hesitate to contact us if you wish to send more students than agreed on in the exchange agreement.

We accept students for both full-year and single semester studies.

Academic requirements

All students must have completed a minimum of 1 year of studies/60 ECTS at their home university before starting their exchange studies at NTNU.

GPA: NTNU does not require a minimum GPA score to be admitted as an exchange student.

English requirements

Our English requirements concern all international students at NTNU except students native to the Nordic countries, who do not need to document any language proficiency.

We require the following test scores:

TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language):

• minimum score of 90 points on the internet based test
• minimum score of 600 points on the paper based test

IELTS (International English Language Testing Service)

• academic test with a minimum overall band score of 6.5

Please note that we do not accept TOEIC-tests or TOEFL MyBest scores.

Useful information for exchange students

Academic information

Full-time study: A standard full-time study pace is equal to 60 ECTS per full academic year.

1 Norwegian “studiepoeng” credit = 1 ECTS

Please see our overview of courses available to exchange students at NTNU

Students are welcome to choose courses from different faculties, provided they meet the previous knowledge requirements/recommendations for the courses they wish to take.
NOTE: Please note that students cannot choose courses from more than one of our three city campuses: Trondheim, Gjøvik and Ålesund.

Architecture and medical students can only be admitted as exchange students if there are established exchange agreements specifically within the subject area of Architecture/Medicine between NTNU and the students’ home institution.

The majority of engineering courses taught in English is on the master’s level. All students wishing to take master’s level courses should have completed 3 years/an equivalent to a bachelor’s degree at their home university before coming to NTNU. Students who have not completed 3 years before their stay at NTNU may be granted access to these master’s courses after an individual evaluation based on their educational background. This evaluation will be done by the International Office after the students have applied and chosen their courses.

Insurance

Please note that NTNU does not cover any insurance for incoming exchange students. Students should make sure to take out their own insurance (health, travel etc.) for their stay in Norway with an insurance company in their home country prior to leaving for Norway.
