Task 3.3

Task 3.3 : Experimental setup

The major objective of this project activity is to develop an experimental setup to verify the sediment erosion model for Francis turbine.

An experimental facility will be developed in the pilot plant test rig to evaluate the erosion of small-scale physical model of the Francis turbine. The maximum flowrate of the pump is 16 l/s and is driven by a variable speed motor. A suitable small-scale model of the proposed  turbine will be made available by NTNU Norway to evaluate the erosion. The model will be developed with a soft material to get the erosion in a comparative short time. The experimental data will be used to validate the numerical model.
