Niklas Jensen-Eriksen

Niklas Jensen-Eriksen, Ph.D., is the Casimir Ehrnrooth Professor of Business History, and a member of the multidisciplinary Helsinki Institute of Sustainability Science (HELSUS) at the University of Helsinki. He has two Master’s degrees from the University of Helsinki (History and World Politics) as well as a Ph.D. from the London School of Economics and Political Science (Economic History). Jensen-Eriksen has led a number of research projects and has written and talked widely on the history of Finnish forest industries, government-business relations, cartels, competition policy, regulation, international political economy, and the business history of media for both academic and general audiences.

University of Helsinki

The University of Helsinki is the oldest and largest academic institution in Finland. The discipline of History is a part of the Faculty of Arts. The roots of the discipline go back to the year 1640, when the university was founded. The research subjects are geographically, temporally and thematically diverse. Many of our research projects have analysed issues, which are highly significant for both scholars and wider audience. They have, for example, produced numerous insights into how democracy in the Nordic countries has evolved, and how domestic political cultures, geopolitical changes and tensions, and the evolution of the world economy have influenced this process. We have strong traditions in business history research and we have studied, in detail, the evolution of Nordic capitalism, including the links between business and society, and the utilisation of raw materials.
