Kick-off new national digitalisation strategy

"We can send it right to the National Museum", said Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre jokingly, upon seeing the AI generated moving painting that our students from Cogito NTNU had made. They presented their project for Støre, as well as the Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development (KDD) and rector Anne Borg in the AI-lab.

Prime minister visit cont 1

Innovation potential in the Norwegian tech-capital Trondheim

In connection with the kick-off for the new national digitalisation strategy, the Prime Minister visited NTNU in Trondheim on June 6th. Among others, he met with the student organisation Cogito, that works with various projects every semester to promote learning and interest in AI. Their work is a great example of what it can entail to study AI and computer science at NTNU.

During the visit, leader of the AI lab, Heri Ramampiaro, also spoke about NorHEAD - Norwegian Center for Headache Research. The center will, among other things, use AI and machine learning to adapt treatment of headaches. The Prime Minister praised the work being done in collaboration between NTNU and St. Olav's hospital and pointed out that here in Trondheim we see the reality of what a true university hospital can do.

The need for a digital-aware strategy is bigger than ever

After the visit in the AI lab, the Prime Minister and rector headed to the kick-off itself, where more intereseting research presentations waited. Adaptable treatment was also a theme when one of our PhD students, Stuart Gallina Ottersen, presented his PhD project on how AI can provide better treatment for patients who struggle with sleep.

"We have artificial intelligence in our pockets and use it without knowing it"

Associate Professor Inga Strümke gave the assembly a short introduction to AI. We believe that this is just the start of the knowledge needed to succeed with the new national digitalisation strategy. As Inga said about the current AI wave: "We have artificial intelligence in our pockets and use it without knowing it"

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sigbjørn Gjelsvik, concluded the kick-off. He remarked that it was a bit boring to only be able to participate digitally on a screen, but that he too was impressed by the artful design of him as a painting. This rendering was also produced by the students in Cogito, represented by Sveinung Myhre, Sanne Jamila Razmara Olsen and Ulrik Røsby.
