What will you learn?
Upon a completed bachelor's degree in web development, you will be an expert in
- developing and prototype advanced and robust web solutions
- working creatively and systematically to develop innovative concepts for the web
- working with user-centred methods
- web technology, design and project work
Here is an overview of what you learn:
- Web technologies: HTML, CSS and JS (cornerstone technologies of the web), JavaScript frameworks and databases
- Coding
- Design
- User experience
- Full-stack vs front-end development.
Project work
You solve practical tasks for external clients through three practical web projects.
Through project work in interdisciplinary teams, you also get to test your knowledge and skills as a web developer "in real life" and develop the abilities you need to assert yourself in working life.

Learning outcome
A candidate who has completed his or her qualification should have the following learning outcomes defined in terms of knowledge, skills and general competence:
Knowledge
After completing the programme, the candidate:
- has a detailed and in-depth knowledge of how the World Wide Web works and the technological standards and best practices used to build robust web solutions;
- has basic knowledge of graphic design principles;
- has detailed and in-depth knowledge of web technology and the design of web solutions, both in terms of the code that controls the user interface (front-end) and the server functionality (back-end);
- has knowledge of basic principles for project management, concept development, user-centred design, web accessibility, usability and ethics;
- has knowledge of developing web interfaces for various platforms, such as mobile phones, tablets and other screen-based devices;
- has basic knowledge of the historical development of the World Wide Web, its uniqueness as a media platform and its place in society;
- has basic knowledge of communication and philosophy and history of science;
- has knowledge of climate change and how the web produces carbon emissions.
Skills
After completing the programme, the candidate can:
- improve or re-develop a finished web solution from an idea phase to a fully implemented and user-tested application;
- express his/her professional knowledge to others both orally and in writing;
- carry out a user test of a web solution in accordance with the requirements and guidelines that exist for web solutions in Norway;
- make informed choices in the design process, as well as reflect on their own professional practice and adjust this under guidance;
- master professional tools, techniques and forms of expression relevant to work in design and IT-based development projects;
- use different tools to measure the impact (CO2 emissions) when designing and coding;
- use different techniques to reduce the carbon footprint of websites and web applications.
General competencies
After completing the education, the candidate can use his/her knowledge and skills to:
- plan and carry out varied tasks and projects in web development that extend over time, alone and as a participant in a group;
- convey his/her field, in writing and orally to others, including the field's uniqueness and best practices;
- analyse existing web solutions, technology choices and whether the solution satisfies Norwegian regulations and laws;
- conduct simple project development and management of web-related projects;
- do research and development work within the area and be able to update and further develop their theoretical knowledge and practical skills in web development;
- discuss sustainability issues with the owners of a web resource and reflect on the implications of their choices.
