Centre for Real Estate and Facilities Management
Centre for Real Estate and Facilities Management
The construction and real estate business are changing, and one of our main challenges for the future is to create increased value for the industry, for real estate owners and for the users of buildings and facilities. We have to focus on the development and transformation of existing buildings, infrastructure and cities. Therefore we want to develop and change competence, knowledge and education within the area of Real Estate and Facilities Management.
Metamorphosis 2005 - Real Estate and Facilities Management
Metamorphosis 2005 was a project in cooperation between several faculties at NTNU, and financially supported by the Research Council of Norway in the period 2002 - 2006. The projects main objective was to develop a network centre and research school in the area of real estate and facilities management, capable of providing high quality education and knowledge for dealing with and for solving problems of strategic value for real estate owners, proprietors, facilities managers and developers, contractors and users.
We were focusing:
- Development and better management of existing facilities
- Development of new service areas and concepts (facilities management) for users and tenants in corporate real estate
- Development of the role of the client in relation to the market (tenants, users and suppliers) and to public authorities
The project succeded in the following targets
- Establish a master study in Real Estate and Facilities Management. A 2-year specialisation according to the Bologna model was chosen instead of the originally proposed 5-year separate study.
- Establish a complete programme for continuing education at master level.
- Establish a doctoral programme with 5 candidates in Real Estate and Facilities Management for accelerated knowledge acquisition in specific subjects
- Establish a centre for real estate and facilities management, with an attached national and international network
It is established an international cooperation with Delft University of Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Lund Institute of Technology, University of Salford and Helsinki University of Technology through the EuroFM Research Network, Nordic Graduate School for the Construction Sector and Nordic network for Facilities Management.
