Timber structures
Timber has a long tradition as a construction material in Norway. Todays strong focus on environmental footprint and sustainability within the construction industry have lead to the development of new technical solutions for timber structures.
This started with olympic arenas in the cities of Hamar and Lillehammer, and continued with a new terminal at Oslo Airport Gardermoen. During the last 10 years timber has also been established as an important material in medium-span bridges.
The Structural Mechanics group is deeply involved in modelling, testing of timber structures, and characterizing the material properties of timber. Stability and effective connections are important topics within the research.
