Master thesis and student project

Master thesis and student project

The work of the Structural Mechanics group covers a wide range of research areas that are also relevant for student projects, or for a master thesis.

The research topics includes, among others:

  • Extensive use of numerical modelling using the finite element method
  • Modeling of environmental loads, operational loads, and mechanical static/dynamic response calculations
  • Parametric design of structures for optimization of load carrying capability, environmental footprint, and architectual expression
  • Experiments in the mechanical lab at the Department of Structural Engineering, for instance testing of structural components
  • Experiments in the wind tunnel at the Department of Energy and Process Engineering, for instance testing of bridge decks
  • Advanced material modelling and calibration/verification of numerical models
  • Full-scale monitoring of buildings, bridges, and other civil or mechanical systems, and large-scale analysis of measurement data
  • Structural reliability for structural design, operation, and service life extension, and risk analysis
  • The smart use of eco-material such as timber for sustainable structures

If you are interested in writing a master thesis within structural mechanics, you may contact any of the professors to discuss possible topics. You can also browse the collection of completed master theses that are published on NTNU Open.

More information about project and master thesis is announced at the KT Norwegian page during the spring semester.
