Web Design

Becoming a web designer means building the skills needed to create visually appealing, user-friendly, and effective digital experiences.

The one-year programme in web design is ideal for those looking to enhance their current education, explore a new career direction, or prepare for more advanced studies.

It focuses on foundational skills, combining technical knowledge, creative design thinking, and project management to help you develop impactful web solutions.

The programme now offers a hybrid learning mode, allowing both on-campus and digital participation for greater flexibility.

NB! This programme is taught in Norwegian. You have to meet the Norwegian language requirements, or have a Scandinavian language as your mother tongue, if you want to apply to any of NTNU’s degree programmes taught in Norwegian. About the programme

In this one-year web design programme, you will learn the fundamentals of creating visually appealing and user-friendly digital experiences.

You will develop skills in design principles, project management, and user-centered design, while gaining practical experience in basic web development.

The programme focuses on building a foundation for designing simple, static websites and prepares you for future studies or career opportunities in web design.

Upon completing the programme, you will gain a solid introduction to web design, equipping you with the foundational skills to either supplement your existing education or explore a new career path.

You will also be prepared to pursue further studies in related fields, such as interaction design or graphic design.

The study consists of 60 credits and can be taken in a hybrid modality, allowing students to follow courses digitally. 

The programme is structured into two semesters, divided into three main categories:

  • design and methods
  • collaboration and strategy
  • technical foundations

All courses are available digitally while selected courses are also provided as on-campus lectures should you wish the classic student experience.

This one-year programme in web design has 72 places. You must apply via Samordna opptak by 15 April.

Admission requirements

The admission requirement is a general university and college admissions certification, but you may also be admitted on the basis of an assessment of your real competence.

Note! This programme is taught in Norwegian. You have to meet the Norwegian language requirements, or have a Scandinavian language as your mother tongue, if you want to apply to any of NTNU’s degree programmes taught in Norwegian.
