Electron diffraction workshop in Trondheim

A workshop on advanced electron microscopy is organized at NTNU in Trondheim, Norway, 15.-16. May 2019. This year’s workshop will focus on electron diffraction in TEM and SEM – the possibilities given by better cameras, handling larger data sets, and complex post processing that bring electron diffraction into a new era. In this two days’ workshop invited experts and skilled educators in this field will address the essentials and the latest developments through lectures, computer exercises and hands-on practical sessions using the NORTEM infrastructure in Trondheim. Lectures will cover different qualitative and quantitative methods in electron diffraction. We invite PhD students, postdocs and researchers working with TEM and SEM in the physical sciences to participate!

Confirmed invited speakers:

  • Prof. Marc de Graef, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburg, USA
  • Drs. Hongyi Xu and Tom Willhammar, Stockholm University, Sweden
  • Dr. Duncan Johnstone, University of Cambridge, UK.

Detailed program: A time schedule and overwiev of lectures and labs. Can be subject to changes.

Registration: Participation is free, but you have to register before April 1st, 2019. There will be a maximum of 24 participants. In case of large interest, priority will be given to early career scientists active in the field of electron diffraction based techniques.

Accommodation and travelling: At Comfort Hotel Park, Trondheim, single rooms will include breakfast and free WiFi at a price of 899 NOK per person/night. Participants have to order and pay accommodation for themselves. To get discount, the hotel accommodation have to be booked directly from the hotel (by phone +4773833900 or via mail to co.park@choice.no ) before April 14th, by using the reference code 1092GB000171. The workshop starts Wednesday morning, so you should organize travel to Trondheim Tuesday night latest. The workshop ends Thursday evening at 17.00.

Note: Friday is Norway’s independence day, a special occasion to experience! On Sunday, the 16th European workshop on modern developments and applications in microbeam analysis (EMAS19) starts in Trondheim.
