Writing and submitting a specialization project at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering 

This information is intended for students belonging to the following programmes:  

  • Hydropower development (MSB1) 
  • Geotechnics and geohazards (MSGEOTECH) 
  • Costal and Marine Engineering and management (MSCOMEMA) 
  • Cold climate engineering (MSCCE) 
  • Environmental engineering (MSENVIENG) 
  • Project management – Civil engineering (MS PROMAN) 

 
Information for students belonging to the master programmes Civil and Environmental engineering (MIBYGG and MTBYGG) and Engineering and ICT (MTING) can be found here: Skrive og levere fordypingsprosjekt ved Institutt for bygg- og miljøteknikk (IBM) 
 
Depending on the international master programme you are enrolled in, you will have to write a specialization project or not. Please check the study plan for your master’s programme and follow the information given there.  
 
Students enrolled in MSPROMAN, MSGEOTECH and MSCCE will have to write a specialization project in the autumn semester.  


 
In the MSc study in technology at NTNU a major part of the 2nd year shall be a specialization in a selected area.  A large part of the study points (depending on your master programme) in the autumn semester and 100% of the spring semester are dedicated to specialization. The following is mandatory: 
 

  • Register your specialization in Studentweb in the period 15th April -1st September. 
  • Select a specialization project and an elective specialization course by making an agreement with a lecturer within the 1st of June.  

 
An orientation meeting for all students who plan on writing their specialization project and/or master's thesis at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is held in springtime.
