Interview of Shubham

"Research on the development of sediment erosion model for turbine material" - Shubham Sharma, Research Scholar, IIT Roorkee

Shubham Sharma is a Research Fellow at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee. IIT Roorkee is one of the three partners of FranSed Project. He has been involved in WP 3 of FranSed Project since the beginning in September 2018.

"At present, I am working on developing a mathematical correlation for sediment erosion based on the experimental data. The development of an experimental rig for the measurement of erosion in a rotating domain is also in progress which will be further used for the validation of sediment erosion model in CFD."

CRHT web based

CRHT X conducted in web-based module due to COVID-19 pandemic

The turbine testing lab at Kathmandu University has been organizing an International Symposium on "Current Research in Hydropower Technologies (CRHT)" every year since 2010. The main objective of this symposium is to  provide a platform to share research experiences on hydropower sector which also helps in building network among researchers, students and industrialists.

A delegation from NTNU/HydroCen, which includes professors, researchers, PhDs and Post Docs and students, participates at the symposium every year. The story has been different this year because of the strange situation created by COVID-19 pandemic. The 10th CRHT was conducted on web-based module on 28.04.2020.

There was participation from Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, Wuhan University, Tsinghua University and Korea Maritime & Ocean University at CRHT X webinar. 30 full papers and presentations were submitted to CRHT X out of which 16 papers were from Kathmandu University, 1 paper from IIT Roorkee, 11 papers from NTNU, 2 papers from Tribhuvan University and Nepal Electricity Authority Engineering Company.

Keynote speech Ole Gunnar

KU-NTNU cooperation within hydro turbines - Prof. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug at CRHT X

Prof. Ole Gunnar Dahlhaug is the Program Investigator of FranSed. He is a professor of Turbine Technology at NTNU. He was one of the three keynote speakers at CRHT X.

"Nepal and Norway have in common that we have tall mountains and a lot of water.  I believe that hydropower could impact Nepal in a similar way that Norway has developed from hydropower, only much faster than our 100-year-story of hydropower research", said Dahlhaug (Source: HydroCen Blog)

You can watch the following video for Keynote speech by Prof. Dahlhaug at CRHT X.

There were two more keynote speeches:

Green Hydrogen Energy as a Future Multi-disciplinary Research at Kathmandu University - Asst. Prof. Biraj Singh Thapa, KU

Cooperation between WHU and KU in hydropower - Prof. Zhongdong Qian, Wuhan University

Introduction to CRHT

Introduction to TTL and CRHT X by Sailesh Chitrakar, FranSed Project coordinator

Dr. Sailesh Chitrakar, coordinator of FranSed Project, coordinated the CRHT X webinar.

"It is a proud moment for us to be hosting this conference in the online platform despite the COVID 19 pandemic."- says Chitrakar

Second Workshop of FranSed

The second workshop which was planned to be conducted together with CRHT X did not go as planned due to COVID 19 pandemic. The discussion has been going on regarding this workshop which will be most probably web-based and will be held on August-September 2020. The date and agenda of the workshop will be published soon.
