Course content
TEGN1103 is based on TEGN1100. Here, students will develop and expand their vocabulary in Norwegian Sign Language and develop their grammatical repertoire in order to be able to describe, tell about and explain everyday events. In addition, students will develop their ability to discuss current events and express themselves in a more varied way. Focus is on developing the ability to understand Norwegian Sign Language, both formal and informal language use.
Learning outcome
Candidates
- can prepare and deliver a simple presentation in clear Norwegian Sign Language that is simple to understand, and tries to use the grammar of Norwegian Sign Language
- can describe things that have happened to them and briefly describe and justify their meanings and plans
- can understand the main parts of a clearly presented Norwegian Sign Language discourse about known themes, current events and things of a personal/professional interest when the interlocutor signs clearly and adapts the tempo
- can participate in conversations on known themes, current events and things of a personal/professional interest without having to prepare
Learning methods and activities
- Active acquisition of signed language vocabulary, phrases and utterances.
- Communication exercises, to enhance understanding and production of Norwegian Sign Language.
- Video exercises to prepare students for the video exam.
- Participation in recommended signed language arenas in Trondheim.
- 80% compulsory attendance. (Failure to comply with this can be compensated in accordance with instructions from the teacher.)
- Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

Further on evaluation
Individual three-hour video exam where the student exhibits both receptive and productive skills in Norwegian Sign Language. No examination aids allowed.
Specific conditions
Compulsory activities from previous semester may be approved by the department. It is not possible for students who have passed the exam in TEGN1103 to retake the exam in a semester where this course is not taught. Students who did not pass the exam, or who did not complete the exam due to illness may submit the exam in a semester where this course is not taught; however, they will not receive any supervision.

Required previous knowledge
Requires admission to the BA-program in Norwegian Sign Language or the one-year program in Norwegian Sign Language. Completed Norwegian Sign Language 1 (TEGN1100).
