Course content

The course will provide a broad introduction to perspectives and practices in sports science. Key topics that are highlighted include Norwegian sports history and the Norwegian sports model. The course will focus on both Norwegian children's and youth sports, as well as the Norwegian elite sports model, where some of the topics are skill and performance development, the coaching role and sports management, and the combination of sports and school. In addition, the course will reflect on sports' social responsibility, such as sports, physical activity and public health, sports for the disabled and sports as an integration arena.

Learning outcome

Knowledge objectives - The student will:

  • gain insight into perspectives and practices in sports science, based on the Norwegian sports model.

Skill objectives - The student should be able to:

  • answer research questions in sports science in an analytical and discursive manner by using academic sources.

Learning methods and activities

Throughout the semester there are 2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of group education per week. Tutoring is available for the term paper. Form of assessment is a 3 hours written exam.
