About the course

Course content

The course will provide an introduction to physical education and sports subjects, key governmental documents and how the subject and the role of teachers have changed. Part of the course will deal with becoming a research student, and eventually a research teacher. Key topics that will be discussed are who can and should become a teacher in physical education and sports, assessment for learning in the subject, the social responsibility of physical education, such as public health and life skills, traditional sports versus alternative movement activities, and adapted teaching.

Learning outcome

Knowledge objectives - The student shall have insight into:

  • relevant governmental documents in physical education and sports.
  • becoming a research teacher.
  • various issues related to becoming a teacher in physical education and sports.
  • design and evaluation of goal-oriented teaching in physical education and sports.

Skill objectives - The student shall be able to:

  • discuss various issues related to being a teacher in physical education and sports through the use of scientific texts.
  • use own empirical data as a basis in the work of evaluating teaching in physical education and sports subjects.

Learning methods and activities

2 hours of lectures and 2 hours of group activities every week. Certain weeks are reserved for writing the assignment/paper.

The students will participate in various alternative movement activities and use empirical evidence to discuss their own experience of skill level, well-being, intensity and learning.
