Cities and Climate Change
24–27 November 2025, Trondheim, Norway
Welcome to the Regional Sustainable Built Environment Conference, SBE25 Trondheim – Cities and Climate Change
The built environment, responsible for over 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions and primary resource consumption, urgently needs transformation toward climate neutrality and circularity while accommodating a growing global population under dignified conditions in a changing climate . More than 70% of today's population lives in cities, a figure that is expected to grow. This makes urban development and sustainability discussions increasingly important.
The “Cities and Climate Change” conference will focus on the challenges of cities in the Northern Hemisphere concerning climate change. Thus, the conference scope will be the total “built environment”, including all civil works and stakeholders. Better organized cities and communities are vital in mitigating and adapting to climate change, as well as other environmental problems related to energy, mobility, circularity, water, and waste management. Integrated approaches to climate change mitigation and adaptation will also generate significant co-benefits across sectors, such as healthy living, social, cultural, and economic regeneration, and cohesive collaborative governance.
