Transylvanian Experimental Neuroscience Summer School (TENSS)
TENSS concentrates top-level international expertise to teach a dozen students techniques and concepts in experimental systems neuroscience. We focus on modern optical and electrophysiological methods to study the connectivity and function of neuronal circuits. The course is designed to be intensive and highly interactive, including both lab sessions and theoretical lectures. At TENSS, we specifically teach the fundamentals of methods and focus on hacking, open-source tools, and creative problem solving, giving attendees the ability to carry out creative cutting edge experiments regardless of the resources of their home labs or institutions.
Tentative dates for next edition: 1st-19th June 2025
FENS/IBRO-PERC Exchange Fellowships Programme
Learn a new technique abroad!
Directed at Master’s or PhD students and early postdoctoral fellows located in Europe, the FENS/IBRO-PERC Exchange Fellowships Programme aims to foster and broaden the scope of their methodological training by supporting goal-directed laboratory visits in established European laboratories.
Application deadline: 15th April 2025
Summer Workshop on the Dynamic Brain 2025
The 2024 Summer Workshop on the Dynamic Brain is an intensive, project-based residential course with a focus on the neurobiology of sensory processing, coding, and neural population dynamics. This program is intended for researchers at the graduate and postdoctoral level with an interest in developing the intersection of their scientific knowledge and their computational skills.
Dates: 24th August-7th September 2025
CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training 2025
The CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme was founded by The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) and the International Brain Research Organization (IBRO) to establish a high-level neuroscience training hub in Europe.
The CAJAL Programme aims to teach basic and fundamental neuroscience concepts as well as state-of-the-art techniques, data analysis and computer skills to train the next generation of top-notch neuroscientists.
Simula Summer School in Computational Physiology
The annual summer school is designed to give postgraduate students the opportunity to perform cutting edge research with the world's leading researchers in their fields. Students spend 2 weeks of formal lectures and project work in June at Simula (Oslo, Norway), followed by 1.5 weeks of workshops, joint project work, and a final presentation in August at the University of California, San Diego (La Jolla, USA).
All-optical Control of Brain Functioning with Optogenetics and Multi-Photon Microscopy
This immersive course will take place at the Vision Institute in Paris. It is designed to bring together researchers interested in optical neuronal manipulation. The program aims to guide participants in selecting the most suitable combination of actuators, sensors, illumination methods, and targeting strategies for specific applications. Attendees will also gain hands-on skills and technological insights needed to design and build optical systems for controlling neuronal circuits.
Dates: 10th-19th March 2025
