Projet title: Structural strength analysis of concrete structures exposed to Alkali-silica reactions

Project description:
The PhD-project is related to The Norwegian Public Roads Administration research-program “better bridge maintenance” and the departments focus on existing structures. Alkali-silica reaction (ASR) is together with reinforcement corrosion the dominating deterioration-mechanisms for concrete structures and have a big societal and economic impact.

The PhD-project is divided into two parts:
Part 1: An experimental part which mainly consists of testing of concrete samples stored in accelerated conditions in the laboratory (38°C) to determine expansion and deterioration of mechanical properties. A number of field samples are also included.
Part 2: The second part is related to improving methods of structural strength analysis of structures with alkali-silica-reactions.

Funding: NTNU, NPRA

Start of PhD: September 2018
