Market opportunities for profitable environmental design solutions

Realizing value added environmental solutions

This project will explore opportunities and barriers for realization of value creation resulting from environmental measures. 

While the concept of environmental design is well developed, and will be expanded within HydroCen, implementation remains a challenge. 

In project 4.1. we will firstly study how environmental solutions are realized in European hydropower production and how trade-offs between sustainable production, other societal interests and value creation are considered (sub-project 4.1.1).

Moreover, as part of this mapping existing and relevant market-oriented certification and labelling systems will be documented. The results from the first sub-project will, in consultation with the Technical Committee, be used for development of further activities for the remaining project period.

Full project title:  Realizing value-added environmental solutions

Duration: 2018-2021

Objective: Explore trends and schemes in changing market demand can create added value for hydropower.

Researchers working on the project: Audun Ruud, Atle Harby, Torbjørn Forseth, Øysten Aas, Tor Haakon Bakken, Berit Köhler.

R&D Partners: SINTEF Energi and NINA

Associated projects: Based on the SusWater/CEDREN project, and draws on results from the EU H2020 FITHYDRO projects and links to HydroCen Wp3 and 4.3.
