DURMARE - Durable marine concrete – experience from field stations
The Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) established several field stations along the Norwegian coast in the 90’s with the goal to develop chloride resistant concrete. Since then, data has regularly been collected from the exposure sites and there is now a valuable amount of data available for different parameter studies of the correlation between composition and properties, short- and long-term properties, lab- and field exposure, and service life models.
The main goal of the project is to exploit the extensive amount of data collected from the field stations over the last three decades to elucidate which parameters are crucial for the lifespan of reinforced concrete constructions in marine environment and obtain an improved understanding of the degradation mechanism. Based on the data, it is the aim to improve the test methods used both in the lab and in field as well as the models for simulating degradation mechanisms and calculation of service life and we will look into the possibility for development of new tools for faster evaluation of results.
The project will run from August 2021 to July 2024 as a collaboration between the NPRA and the concrete group at NTNU with Malene T. Pedersen (postdoc), Klaartje De Weerdt, and Mette R. Geiker.
