Global Campaign against Headache

Classifying headache

A systematic classification of the types of headache (over 200 are listed in the International Classification of Headache Disorders) is needed in order to recognise, describe and measure those that contribute to public ill-health and disability (the burden of headache). The classification system promoted by the World Health Organization and adopted globally is the International Classification of Diseases, now undergoing its 11th revision.
