PhD Programme on Integrated Energy Systems on the Norwegian Continental Shelf

Reading this report is essential for understanding why this PhD programme should be established, illuminating the challenges, innovations, and collaborative solutions driving the transformation of Norway's energy landscape, shaping a sustainable future for generations.

At its heart, this initiative aims to electrify and decarbonise assets in Norway's oil and gas industry by integrating activities and assets on the Norwegian Continental Shelf (NCS). Under a Memorandum of Understanding with Equinor, NTNU has embarked on a research endeavor, guided by the invaluable insights of industrial stakeholders. Through in-depth interviews, the project has delved into the challenges faced by these organisations in the evolving energy systems on the NCS.

The findings of these interviews, coupled with a review of existing research, have been crafted into a comprehensive report. This report isn't just a document; it's a strategic roadmap. It maps out the challenges and opportunities in three cross-disciplinary domains: Technology, Economics, and Politics and Society. It illuminates the path toward sustainable, integrated energy systems, through a proposed PhD Programme at the university.
