Survey: Heating habits in Norway

Participate in our research!
The SusWoodStoves knowledge-building project aims to make wood stoves more sustainable by improving stove technology, reducing emissions, and better integration into homes and the energy system.
Understanding Household Heating Habits
Heating our home is an essential part of our daily life, but how we manage it varies widely between households. The goal of this study is to gather insights into how Norwegians heat their homes, the types of heating systems they use, their thermal comfort, and their strategies to control indoor temperature. This information will not only help us understand household heating habits, but will also allow us to compare homes with different heating systems. This comparison will help assess the impact of heating systems and habits, the level of involvement in their use, and the satisfaction associated with their use.
Who should answer?
Anyone living in Norway can participate in this study, regardless of the type of heating system. If you are responsible for adjusting the heating in your home (for example, adjusting the thermostats of the radiators or lighting a wood stove), your input is especially valuable.
Survey highlights:
- Takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
- Completely anonymous.
- Participants who share their email addresses can participate in a lottery to win one of the NOK 1000 gift cards (valid in all Norway).

Some key questions for our research
The influence of wood stoves is a main research question for our research project. Therefore, it is important that both households that use and do not use wood stoves participate in this survey to clearly identify the specific influence of wood stoves on habits.
Heating with wood stoves is a traditional strategy in Norway. Wood stoves are present in most residential buildings. They provide warmth, comfort, coziness, and energy security in a time that demands reliable heating solutions. Although the use of wood stoves is often discussed in the media, these discussions often lack scientific background. We aim to provide more reliable, fact-based, and transparent information on the use of wood stoves. It can help to make rational decisions about the use of wood stoves in a sustainable future in Norway.

About me
My name is Abolfazl Mohammadabadi and I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Energy and Process Engineering at NTNU. In the SusWoodStoves project, I work on the performance assessment of houses heated with a wood stove using measurement data. . My background is primarily in statistical modeling and data analysis.
This questionnaire is part of my Ph.D. project, aimed at gaining deeper insights into household heating habits, including how households manage their space heating needs, the types of heating systems they use, and how temperature patterns vary with outdoor conditions, different zones in the home, etc.
