Founded in 1987, the Scuola Superiore di Studi Universitari e di Perfezionamento Sant'Anna di Pisa has deep historical ties with the city and its university. Housed in the Sant'Anna Conservatory, founded in 1785 inside a 14th-century Benedictine monastery, the institution has evolved since its founding law in 1987. It has transformed, including the restoration of its buildings, the expansion of its spaces, and a shift towards a research university model, accompanied by changes in its governance.

Pisa's rich history extends far beyond its most famous landmark - the Leaning Tower of Pisa. There are so many things to do in Pisa, Italy, such as visiting historical masterpieces, museums, churches, palaces, and more. Nestled in the Tuscany region, Pisa offers the fun of the modern world (nightlife, great food, etc.) set in a charming city dotted with beautiful examples of medieval architecture.
The buildings lining the river are typically wonderful Italian painted in pastel shades with ornate shutters. It’s best to wander your way along here admiring the typically Italian-painted pastel-shade buildings with ornate shutters with a cooling gelato in hand, I mean when isn’t it in Pisa, Tuscany, or Italy for that matter? From here make a beeline for the Ancient walls of Pisa, which you can climb up and walk along for a small fee. There are 3 entrances and exits but we chose to climb up the tower in the east of the city close to the Universita di Pisa Dipartimento di Matematica. From here simply follow the wall north and you will get some of the best views over the Piazza del Duomo. We then climbed down via the Torre de Santa Maria and set about exploring the piazza from the ground.

One of our best tips is to plan your transportation and save yourself the stress of navigating a train station at the last minute. Put together your Pisa itinerary and research your travel options so you have a game plan when you’re ready to hit the road.
There are several great options, including:
Plane – Galileo Galilei Airport (also known as the Pisa International Airport) offers direct flights from many major European cities.
Train – Pisa is well-connected by train, so you can travel from most major Italian cities, including Florence, Rome, and Milan. You may also be able to travel directly to Pisa from outside Italy, as Nice and Geneva also offer direct train rides. Pisa’s main train station is Pisa Centrale, located within walking distance of Pisa’s city center.
Car – Driving in Pisa can be a bit of an adventure, so be prepared! The city has limited parking options, though you can find parking lots outside the city walls.
Bus – The bus station is conveniently located near the train station, and there are several bus companies that offer transportation to Pisa from other Italian or European cities.
The airport and the railway station are connected by the PisaMover, a high-speed shuttle service that runs every day from 6 a.m. to midnight, every 5/8 minutes. The average travel time between the airport and the station is about 5 minutes. The PisaMover stop at the airport is right outside the Passenger Terminal, while the stop in the train station is by the former platform 14 (accessible through the underground pedestrian passageways of Pisa Centrale).
The PisaMover fares are 5 euro for the single ticket and 10 euro for the return ticket.
Tickets can be purchased from the automatic machines that can be found by the 3 PisaMover stops, from Trenitalia authorized ticket offices (tickets in combination with rail journeys) and from the company’s ticket office (San Giusto/Aurelia station, every day from 8.30am to 6pm).
