Design and operation of subsea oil and gas fields powered by renewable sources

Short summary of the project

Future developments in the Norwegian continental shelf may use power from renewables (e.g. windfarms, wave energy). The power supply from such sources is often periodic, with daily and seasonal variations. To overcome this limitation, it has been suggested to include additional components such energy storage systems (e.g. batteries, hydrogen storage). However, such systems are complex and costly and have a low technology readiness level for offshore oil and gas applications.

The overall goal of this project is to develop and test methods to aid during the design process of offshore oil and gas fields and to evaluate the technical and economic feasibility of renewable power sources and energy storage alternatives.
