Course content
The course addresses methods for numerical solution of ordinary differential equations, numerical solution of sets of linear equations, numerical solution of partial differential equations, gradient based and derivative free optimization techniques and basic techniques for machine learning useful for engineers and geoscientists.
Learning outcome
The course aims at giving the students experience in use of computational methods to solve problems in engineering and geoscience.
Knowledge: The students should acquire knowledge about basic numerical techniques applied to problems from engineering and geoscience, including fundamental understanding of computational cost of different algorithms.
Skills: The students should be capable of writing programming routines for the numerical solution of problems in engineering and geoscience.
