About the course

Course content

This subject addresses the systems analysis of environmental issues from a technical, economic and industrial perspective. It makes use of life-cycle assessment, input-output analysis, systems engineering, material flow analysis, cost-benefit analysis, risk analysis or related techniques. It addresess technical systems, products, households or organisations. The project may be conducted in connection with a company or institution.

Learning outcome

Knowledge: The student should know about:
- How the problem investigated in the project has been investigated by different disciplines in engineering, environmental science, economics etc.
- Theory and methods of industrial ecology related to the topic.

Skills:
- The student should be able to approach a new topic, identify important issues, relate to different approaches and be able to describe the contribution of work by others.
– Choose and utilize reproducible methods to analyse the system and answer the research question.
– Be able to critically evaluate data and research results and express their uncertainty.
– Reflect on consequences of measures to address a problem and be able to give recommendations on how to prioritize measures. – Draw conclusions from own work and identify own contribution of work to the research front. – Be able to communicate results in oral and written form.

General competence: Be able to understand research questions and the scientific approach in general, and be able to contribute to research.

Supervised independent project.
