About

About the course

Course content

The course contains a selection of the following topics, with an emphasis on system integration:

  • Mechatronic system design methodology
  • Fast prototyping
  • System integration
  • Design and redesign of mechatronic systems
  • Hardware selection and integration of mechanical, electrical and sensor systems
  • Software engineering for hardware integration
  • Implementation of control and estimation of mechatronic systems, e.g. PID, MPC, Kalman filter
  • Communication between subsystems, e.g. using field busses, network communication
  • Modelling and control of mechatronic systems
  • Methodologies to test, evaluate and verify mechatronic systems
  • Advanced topics in mechatronics
  • Possibly other relevant topics

More details about the curriculum will provided during the start of semester.

Learning outcome

Knowledge and skills

The candidate can

  • explain and apply mechatronic design principles.
  • explain and apply the theory introduced in the course.
  • explain the scope of mechatronic systems.
  • contrast the difference between mechatronic systems and mechanical or electrical systems.
  • use digital tools, simulations and physical lab equipment to demonstrate the introduced theory.

Competence

The candidate can, within the scope of mechatronics engineering

  • identify problems, challenges, and systems which can be solved, designed, or controlled.
  • work and contribute as a part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • work individually on interdisciplinary projects.
  • manage interdisciplinary teams and projects.
  • present problems, solutions and results both orally and written in a professional and scientific manner.

Learning methods and activities

Learning activities generally include a mix of lectures, tutorial, practical lab/project work. There will also be mandatory work. A constructivist approach for learning is endorsed, with focus on problem solving and practical application of theory.

Compulsory assignments

  • Work

Further on evaluation

Oral exam. There will also be mandatory work. The re-sit exam is an oral exam in August the following year.

Specific conditions

Admission to a programme of study is required:
