Additive Manufacturing Course
News 2023
September 13th - 14th SFI Physmet and the EU project Smart-SWAAM organized a two days international course on additive manufacturing (AM). Several international and national experts were invited to give lectures about different aspects of AM from fundamental solidification, equipment, powder production, processing, microstructures and properties to applications.

As one of the most popular and promising emerging manufacturing technologies, additive manufacturing has attracted huge interest among industries and academic institutions. In the last years, Norway has also made significant progresses in AM in terms of both research and industrial application.
We have organized a two days international summer school on AM with funding from SFI PhysMet and the EU project SMART WAAM ( NTNU as one of the major project partners). In total 9 lecturers (2 from Portugal, 1 from Belgium, 1 from UiA, 1 from Elkem, 3 from SINTEF, and 1 from NTNU) introduced different aspects of AM, including fundamental rapid solidification, powder production, wire and arc AM (WAAM), powder bed based AM, advanced microstructure characterization, non-destructive testing of AM components and simulation/modelling of AM.
In the summer school, 29 participants including researchers, professors, master students, PhD students and postdocs from NTNU, SINTEF, Elkem, Equinor and IFE listened to lectures and discussed topics within the scientific field of additive manufacturing.
