University Museum: Mid-Norway's Prehistory
Central Norway through 10,000 years
See beautiful flint tools from the Stone Age and magnificent Viking swords, and say hello to the Hitraman, a 25-year-old male who died 4,000 years ago.
In the prehistoric exhibition you can see some of the museum's most spectacular objects: the oldest belonged to the people who first came to our part of the world 11,500 years ago, and the youngest were owned by Vikings.
These objects carry the past with them, and give us insight into the lives of the people who came before us. They tell stories about everyday life and religious practice, power struggles and major societal changes.
In the exhibition, you can also see a reconstructed human, based on a skeleton that was found on the island of Hitra, off the coast of Trøndelag. The skeleton belonged to a 25-year-old man, who died 4,000 years ago, at the very end of the Stone Age.
