Mediterranean Conservation Society
The Mediterranean Conservation Society, or Akdeniz Koruma Derneği (AKD), was founded in Izmir in 2012 as a nationwide non-profit organisation. Their work focuses primarily on endangered species such as the Mediterranean Monk Seal and the Sandbar Shark, and the monitoring and restoration of the marine ecosystems in which they live. They contribute to protecting the species and ecosystems, as well as ensuring the continued existence of traditional shore fishing and those who make a living from it.
Role in DiverSea
The Mediterranean Conservation Society is a key contributor to the fieldwork and sampling studies in Turkey. They also actively engage in citizen science and communications tasks. Moreover, they play a significant contributor role in all work packages.
