Organized academic training component
Each PhD Programme covers specific study plan based PhD level courses of at least 20 Credits in the PhD Catalogue. In addition, the Faculty may, on recommendation from the Department, also approve courses in the PhD Catalogue (Master level courses, external course/individual curricula). The requirements for the overall academic extent of each individual component in the organized academic training component are stated in each subject's study plan.
The organized academic training component must be completed and approved by the Department and Faculty before the thesis may be handed in for assessment.
Signing up for courses in the PhD Catalogue
The candidate must sign up for evaluation in the PhD courses that are to be found in the PhD Catalogue. This is done on the "Studentweb " within deadline. On this site, candidates may sign up for exams, annul examination registrations, check exam results and report change in address when signing up for exams via "Studentweb." When signing up for exams on the "Studentweb," the candidate must be in possession of a PIN. This PIN is received when logging on to the "Studentweb." (Candidates who do not have a PIN are to use their personal identification number (11 digits) as username and the first four digits of their date of birth as password.
Individual curricula and external courses

External courses that are not stated in the study plan may be approved as part of the organized academic training component. Such courses must be specially approved. The candidate is required to ensure that documentation of participation and academic content/extent is handed in with the application for approval. The application, which states which category the course belongs to (Methodology, Theory or the Theory of Science), is to be sent to the Department via the supervisor. The supervisor and the Department are to make their recommendation and forward the application to the Faculty which provides the final approval.
Courses and academic training which are not stated in the PhD Catalogue may on approval from the Faculty also be part of the minimum 20 Credits study plan specified courses in the PhD Catalogue.
Changes in the academic training plan/specific recognition
The candidate is responsible for completing the organized academic training component in accordance with the approved plan. The candidate is also responsible for applying for possible exemption or changes in the plan. Changes in the training plan are to be approved by the Faculty, on recommendation from the Department (or Programme Committee/Research Committee). The Department is responsible for informing the Faculty about any changes in the candidate's training plan.
The candidate is to send an application concerning changes in the training plan to the Department via the supervisor. The application is to include a brief account of the changes and information about the course (s) that are to be approved/specially recognized/removed from the approved training plan (title of course/course code, name and number of credits).
Recognition of courses completed before admission
As a rule, at least half of the courses in the organized academic training component must be completed after admission.
Courses passed before the completion of a Master's Degree/hovedfag will normally not be approved as part of the organized academic training component.
Courses that are completed 2 or more years before admission are normally not approved as part of the organized academic training component.

In case of an appeal about the assessment or procedural matters, the applicable law is the Act relating to Universities and Colleges of 1. April 2005 §§ 5-2 and 5-3.
