The PhD programme in Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture

About the programme

Do you want to solve current societal problems with the help of social science and humanities research?

The PhD-programme in Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture educates students with different backgrounds to engage in and contribute to solving current societal problems through social science and humanities research. Our PhD-candidates address issues related to for instance climate and the environment, gender equality, inclusion and diversity and fair and responsible innovations. Over many years the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies of Culture has hosted between 10 and 20 PhD-candidates at a time, creating a young, inclusive and lively research environment that is generously supported by the department leadership. Our PhD-supervisors are committed and experienced and used to supervising in teams. The well-established culture of sharing benefits all researchers at the Department, and especially helps the PhD-candidates contribute to their field.

We offer one specialization in gender and diversity and in science and technology studies (STS), equivalent to the Department's two research centres. Both centres have a long and impressive track record when it comes to obtaining external research funding. Most doctoral theses are therefore written within the context of larger research projects. PhD-candidates are also encouraged to participate in one or more of the Department's research groups.
