– Admission requirements

PhD opptakskrav felles

Candidates are admitted on a continuous basis, following submission and processing of their applications.

In accordance with the NTNU PhD regulations, applicants must have a grade point average (GPA) from their M.Sc/M.Eng studies (or equivalent) of B or better, as measured in ECTS (European credit transfer system) grades.

In keeping with the regulations' requirement of a "strong academic background", applicants are requested to document a satisfactory theoretical background from his/her studies for a Bachelors degree. This translates to a GPA of C or better, as measured in ECTS grades.

Candidates who do not meet these admission requirements may be requested to pass examination on selected topics before enrolment in the PhD program, or may instructed to such classes in the course curriculum of the programme. These exams must be passed with grade B or better, in each instance.

Project proposal requirements

A brief project description (½ - 1 page) must be included with the admissions application form (appendix 4). A full project proposal (5 - 10 pages) can be submitted either with the admission application, or within 6 months of formal enrolment.

Financial conditions

Applicants who are not fully supported on a scholarship, are requested to commit minimum 50% of their time to research training. At least one year should be allocated for full time work on their PhD.
