Astro and Particle Physics and Modern Field Theory

– Specialisation

Projects in Astrophysics can include questions related to selected problems that span from star physics to cosmology.

In Particle Physics, projects within quantum mechanics, gravitation theory, quantum electrodynamics, electroweak interactions, quantum chromodynamics and super symmetry. These are theories that attempt to describe the properties of and interaction between the most elementary building stones we know so far in nature (electrons, photons, quarks, gluons, etc).

Most of these topics are also relevant as projects within the area Modern Field Theory, which spans from general theory of relativity to string theory, and are also central to advanced statistical physics and condensed matter physics. Within Condensed Matter Physics, there are project possibilities in applied quantum field theory, with particular emphasis on transport properties in exotic metals and superconductors. Projects within critical phenomena, both classical and quantum mechanical, are also relevant.
