This program focuses on themes within innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability management, sustainable business development and change management. You'll learn to lead sustainability initiatives and innovation processes in a business setting and will also have the opportunity to work on your own business ideas during the master's degree.

Aalesund is a small, friendly city located between magnificent fjords, mountains, and the ocean. The university and the city offer a vibrant and welcoming student environment with many student organizations. Master students at the Department of International Business can become part of Fjord Finance, a student organisation that regularly organises exciting social and professional events.

The campus has close links with local companies and you will have many opportunities to connect with these through project work, internships and your MSc thesis.

The MSc in Managment of Innovation and Sustainable Business Development is a two-year, full-time programme, worth a total of 120 ECTS credits. You will take 30 credits per semester over four semesters.

  • The first and second semester consists of compulsory courses in innovation, entrepreneurship, sustainability, change management and research methods.
  • In the summer between the first and second year you can do a summer semester through Gründerskolen (The Norwegian School of Entrepreneurship)
  • In the third semester you can do an exchange semester abroad or to specialize further through compulsory and elective courses in Aalesund. You can also include an internship as an elective in your third semester.
  • In the fourth and final semester you will write your master thesis.

Applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, innovation, entrepreneurship, management, organizational studies or equivalent with a grade point average of at least C.

The bachelor's degree must have been completed by the start of the semester at NTNU in August and must include at least 80 ECTS in courses within business, economics, management, marketing, innovation, entrepreneurship or organizational studies.

For students at NTNU in Aalesund, the following bachelor degrees are accepted for qualification into the programme:

  • Bachelor in marketing, innovation and management
  • Bachelor in business administration
  • Bachelor in biomarine innovation
  • Bachelor in shipping management

There is no application fee. There is a tuition charge for students from outside the EU/ EEA.

There is no tuition fee for students from the EU/EEA.


Application deadlines for August admission:

Non-EU/non-EEA students: 1 December

EU/EEA/Swiss students:  1 March

Norwegian/Nordic students: 15 April
