Hydropower Development

Learning methods and activities

As a student on Hydropower Development you will have a mix of lectures, projects, lab work, field work and excursions as learning methods.

Lectures are usually accompanied by exercises where theoretical concepts are exemplified in practical examples. Computers and computer models are used extensively and students have access to a computer lab. Every student is also expected to have a personal computer (laptop) where all relevant software can be installed. NTNU will provide free licences for all necessary software.

Excursions

During your study you will be taken on excursions to many hydropower sites and also visit important institutions and companies in Trondheim and Oslo.

There will also be excursions combined with fieldwork for Geology, Hydrology and River hydraulics. Most of the excursions will last 2-3 days. All costs for the students are covered by the program.

Relevant project and thesis work

All theses are linked to projects or problems relevant to the student's home country. The thesis is carried out on an individual basis. The topic is chosen at the end of first year study in agreement with the professor in charge. Most international students go to their home country during the summer months between first and second year to collect data. The evaluation of the candidate's performance on thesis level is based on a public presentation of the thesis and the thesis itself.
