The main shipping markets - supply and demand

Learning outcome
Knowledge:
- identify the most important factors influencing the need for maritime transport
- document in-depth knowledge of the most important shipping markets
- use scientific methodology and working methods for the development of written reports.
- independently update knowledge in the field through literature searches, contact with academic communities and by revision of their own practice.
Skills:
- identify and describe the most important shipping markets and drivers for supply and demand in the markets.
- explain shipbroking and the shipbroker's most important tasks.
- explain the tasks of the ship agent, line agent, claims agent.
- master the differences between the different forms of chartering and the main content of central documents in chartering.
- perform written and oral presentations.
General competence:
- ability to assess the environmental, ethical and economic impacts of maritime transport in a local and global perspective and apply this knowledge.
- active participation in professional discussions and ability to share knowledge and experiences with others.
- contribute to the development of good practice in the field.

Learning methods and activities
Pedagogical methods:
- Lectures, assignments and group work
- Content, scope, time frame and submission for the group work are given by the course coordinator.
Compulsory assignments
- Compulsory portfolio assignment in groups
Further on evaluation
- 4 hours individual school exam
- Compulsory portfolio assignment in groups.
- Students shall prepare a group work of 2 assignments that are collected in a portfolio. The group work is compulsory and must be approved to qualify for the individual exam.
- New and postponed exam: The student is entitled to a postponed exam only where the student has had a valid absence or has failed. New and postponed exam: following semester.
