Course content
The course covers the requirements of The Nautical Institute Certification and Accreditation Standard Vol.1. and the STCW Code Part A-II/2 and B-V / e and Part B-V / f.
Learning outcome
The candidate must be able to:
Prepare:
- that the vessel can be set up on DPt
- that the vessel's machinery and thrusters are ready for use
- use of checklists and guidelines for safe operation along the rig
Plan:
- apply the terminology associated with the topic in writing and orally in Norwegian and English
- setup of the vessel's DP system
- arrival / departure platform / rig
- arrival / departure port
- transfer along platform / rig
- use of position reference systemswork on location
- Perform:
- setup of the vessel's DP system from manual / joystick to full DP
- maneuvering the vessel using thrusters, rudders and propellers along the rig / platform and to and from the quay
- filling in and checking checklists
- Evaluate:
- the quality and accuracy of the vessel's position and position reference systems
- which position reference systems are best suited for use in the current situation
- the vessel's operational limitations
- own experiences and actively participate in professional discussions with others and contribute to the development of good practice
Learning methods and activities
Lecture and exercises. Practical exercises on simulator with preparation, briefing and debriefing. All teaching material is in English.

Further on evaluation
Attendance is mandatory at all lectures and exercises. The exam in the subject is two-part with a theoretical and practical part. Each part counts 50% and the grade in the subject is passed / failed.
