About the course
Course content
The course focuses on mechanical testing and measurements, preparation of specimens, devices and sensors and processing of data where experimental results are compared with relevant analytical and numerical solutions. The experimental theory is emphasized while the theory of mechanics and materials is provided if not sufficiently defined in the required previous knowledge.
Learning outcome
Knowledge: The candidate knows and has basic theoretical understanding of test methods for products, components and materials, measurements, analog and digital measurement systems and processing of signals and data.
Skills: The candidate can assess different methods for testing and measurements, perform design of experiments, describe test procedures, prepare specimens, perform data acquisition, process data and compare results with relevant theory.
General competence: The candidate is able to conduct experimental work, report and present the results with assessments and conclusions.
Learning methods and activities
The lectures provide the theoretical foundation, while a collection of selected experimental problems shall be solved. The reporting for the laboratory work is graded and counts 40% of the final grade. Project teams are established at the beginning of the semester.
Further on evaluation
For a re-take of an examination, all assessments during the course must be re-taken.
