Course content
Equations of motion. Advanced potential flow. Lifting bodies. Boundary layers. Two- and three dimensional wing theory. Panel methods. Lifting line theories. Wind turbine aerodynamics.
Learning outcome
The course provides the student with knowledge about:
- Flow around bodies
- Transfer of forces between a fluid and an arbitrarily shaped body
- Panel methods and thin airfoil theory
- Effects of finite wing span
- Application of aerodynamics to wind turbines, cars, trains, and planes
The course should enable the student to:
- Calculate the flow around a given body
- Select the proper set of equations for a given aerodynamics problem
- Calculate lift generated by an airfoil
The student should gain the following general competences:
- Realistically assess model results
- Use of a numerical programming language (e.g. Python, Matlab) to solve engineering problems
- Perform lab work and disseminate results as a team
Learning methods and activities
Lectures, problems sets, group presentation, lab report. Lecture content will be tested on the final exam. The problem sets, group presentation, and lab report are included in the final grade.
The lectures and exercises are in English. Since the teaching is given in English, the examination will be given in English.
Further on evaluation
If there is a re-sit examination, the examination form may be changed from written to oral.
For a re-take all assessments during the course must be re-taken.
