Course content
The course gives an introduction to Spanish language with emphasis on pronunciation, listening comprehension, basic grammar and written exercises.
Learning outcome
KNOWLEDGE
The candidate
- have knowledge of basic Spanish grammar for practical usage
- have knowledge of various forms of address both in the private and professional sphere
- will be able to acquire a vocabulary in order to compare culturally dependent matters in Norway and the Spanish speaking countries
SKILLS
The candidate
- is expected to acquire the ability to communicate in both oral and written Spanish at A2 level
- is expected to understand simple texts and articles about cultural matters in Spanish
- is expected to produce similar texts in Spanish as well as notes, summaries, letters, e-mails and short essays
Learning methods and activities
A combination of digital lectures and seminars. Students will complete three mandatory assignments during the semester, of which at least one is an oral presentation. Written assignments may consist of several short, written hand-ins. All mandatory assignments must be approved within the fixed deadlines in order for the student to be able to sit the exam. It is the responsibility of the student to keep updated on deadlines and requirements for this course.
Approved obligatory assignments are valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester). All obligatory assignments must be completed in the same semester.

Assessment:
- Written exam, 4 hours. The exam must be answered in Spanish. Information about which dictionaries, if any, you are allowed to consult during the written exam will be available at the beginning of the semester.
- The final assessment is adjusted through an oral examination (duration: 10 minutes). The oral exam will be held in Spanish. The oral examination will be cancelled if the written exam has been failed by the examiners.
Students who fail the exam must retake both parts.
Recommended previous knowledge
Level A1 in Spanish according to The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
