Course content

This course focuses on the behaviour of households and firms under various economic constraints. We also discuss how markets work under free competition and monopoly, while other market structures are discussed more briefly.

Learning outcome

Knowledge

You learn

  • definitions of key microeconomic concepts
  • how the consumer's demand for goods and services is affected by prices and income
  • how the firm's supply and its demand for inputs are affected by product- and factor prices
  • how the microeconomic analytical tools can be applied to specific issues

Skills

You should be able to

  • explain the microeconomic concepts and the adjustments of consumers and firms
  • analyze specific issues using graphical and mathematical analysis

General competence

You should be able to

  • follow economic reasoning related to the course in the public debate and professional reports

Learning methods and activities

The course is taught like an intensive course, with 4 hours of lectures and 2 hours of practical assignments per week during the second half of the term. The course has compulsory activity. Specific requirements will be announced at the beginning of the term.
