About the course
Course content
The academic content of the course, i.e. topic and theory will vary from one academic year to another. The course provides a study of a selection of Scandinavian literary works and a selection of relevant theoretical texts.
Learning outcome
Candidates will have obtained the following qualifications after successfully completing this course:
Knowledge
- the knowledge that is required in order to search for and assess relevant academic texts of a subject field
Skills
- the ability to make use of reflect on theoretical-methodological approaches within a limited area of literary science
- the ability to analyze texts in context, such as an authorship or a literary work, a theme or a theoretical perspective
- the ability to develop and discuss a current problem within literary science
Learning methods and activities
Seminars.
Obligatory assignments: Up to 2 approved oral assignments (determined by lecturer). Approved obligatory assignment is valid for 2 semesters (the semester in which the approval is given, plus the following semester).
Obligatory activities from a previous semester may be approved by the department.

Recommended previous knowledge
NORD1104 and NORD1108 or equivalent.
Course materials
The reading list consists of 7 works, and at least 2, but no more than 3 of these must be of a theoretical nature. One work of theory is defined as text(s) counting at least 150 pages. The rest of the works on the reading list will consist of works of fiction. The curriculum could center on e.g. one authorship, a literary epoch, a genre, a theme or theoretical perspective. It is expected that the students read necessary secondary literature in connection to the literary texts on the reading list.
