About the course

Course content

The course covers accompaniment-/ensemble literature for the most common solo instruments/songs of important periods and genres. The student will accompany at internal concerts in the study period. The student may choose to specialize in one particular genre. Students will receive some training in reduction of orchestra transcriptions etc. For piano and guitar: some basic training in general bass playing/figuration,for guitar also tabulator playing. The student must independently organize accompaniment with fellow students at the start of the semester.

  • as knowledge about the role as a piano coach, continuo-playing and score-playing.

The candidate:

  • has been trained in interactiv accompagnying other musicians and singers
  • has been trained in prima vista playing.
  • can present and convey music to an audience

Learning methods and activities

Regular individual and/or group tuition. Observation of accompaniment lessons with a teacher. The student must participate with accompanying playing in at least two concert performances prior to the exam.

Instruction is obligatory and demands minimum 80% attendance.

Compulsory assignments

  • Participation at 2 concerts
  • Satisfactory participation in compulsory instruction
  • A minimum of 90 minutes studied repertoire

Further on evaluation

Practical examination in accompaniment.

The studied repertoire (90 minutes) includes the program for the examination concert and must be delivered medio April.

Music Performance (MMUSP)
Music Performance Studies (BMUSP)

Required previous knowledge

Requires passed MUSP4136 or equivalent with piano, guitar or other accompaniment instrument. A high level in prima-vista playing will be an advantage.
